Using the right materials and repair methods is essential but we often find proper inspection and diagnosis is the step frequently overlooked by others. It comes down to sleuthing around using old-school inspection methods (the classic finger poke, for example). You can’t solve a problem unless it is fully understood and that's why we frequently get called into figure out problems the other guys couldn't. (No offense other guys).
Perhaps the greatest advantage we bring to our clients is that we are far beyond simple roofers. Let’s face it, roofers tend to find roof problems and frequently water intrusion issues involve more than just the roof. The first step in successful roof leak repair is successfully determining what is causing roof leak and/or where the roof leak is coming from.
At Kuhl’s Contracting, we remove ice dams the only way that doesn’t damage your roof: with low-pressure steam.

Perform a visual inspection of the entire asphalt roof, looking for missing, curled, cracked, or blistered shingles.

Check for granule loss on shingles, which can indicate aging and reduced weather protection.

Examine flashing around roof penetrations, such as chimneys, vents, and skylights, for gaps or deterioration.

Inspect gutters and downspouts for excessive granules, debris buildup, or improper drainage.

Identify interior signs of roof leaks, including ceiling stains, water spots, mold, or peeling paint.

Use moisture detection tools to check for water intrusion beneath shingles and into the roof deck.

Perform a lift test to determine if shingles are properly sealed and adhered to the roof surface.

Inspect the roof deck and underlayment for signs of rot, sagging, or structural weakness.

Evaluate attic ventilation to ensure proper airflow, preventing moisture buildup and heat damage.

Determine whether the issue is due to age-related wear, storm damage, improper installation, or inadequate ventilation.

Provide a detailed repair report, outlining necessary corrective actions.

Offer repair solutions, from minor shingle replacements to extensive roof restoration or replacement, if needed.

Remove and replace damaged or missing shingles, ensuring a secure fit.

Apply roofing cement to reseal curled or loose shingles.

Replace or reinforce loose or deteriorated flashing to prevent leaks around roof penetrations.

Remove and replace compromised underlayment or rotted roof decking to restore structural integrity.

Apply sealants and waterproof barriers to reinforce weak areas.

Ensure proper gutter drainage to prevent water pooling near eaves and valleys.

Install or repair ridge vents, soffit vents, or attic fans to improve airflow and reduce moisture buildup.

Reinforce roof decking if sagging or structural weaknesses are detected.

Apply reflective or protective coatings to enhance longevity and reduce heat absorption.

Conduct a final inspection to verify that all repairs are complete and the roof is fully weatherproof.
